Don’t Play With Fire – You Might Get Burned

Don’t Play With Fire – You Might Get Burned

Pastor Carolyn J. Blue

Proverbs 6: 27-28

KJV

27 Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?

28 Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?

NLT

27

Can a man scoop a flame into his lap

and not have his clothes catch on fire?

28

Can he walk on hot coals

    and not blister his feet?

Hebrews 12: 25 – 29

KJV

25 See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:

26 Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.

27 And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.

28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:

29 For our God is a consuming fire.

NLT

25 Be careful that you do not refuse to listen to the One who is speaking. For if the people of Israel did not escape when they refused to listen to Moses, the earthly messenger, we will certainly not escape if we reject the One who speaks to us from heaven!26 When God spoke from Mount Sinai his voice shook the earth, but now he makes another promise: “Once again I will shake not only the earth but the heavens also.”[k] 27 This means that all of creation will be shaken and removed, so that only unshakable things will remain.

28 Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe. 29 For our God is a devouring fire.

Don’t play with fire, because If you play with fire, you might get burned.

This is a warning that can be dangerous or have risky actions that often lead to pain and injury.

Throughout life, we’ve always been taught that fire is a dangerous thing! We’ve been taught, and you should never ever play with fire around fire and fire none of that because you might get burned.

Therefore, we grew up being cautious of fire, many of us being afraid of fire and staying away from the fire.

Then there are some of us that are curious and like to push all the buttons just to see if our parents knew what they are talking about and played around with fire anyway! And guess what happened? We got burned!

Example: Playing with fire burning outside

When we play with fire in the natural, it is and can be dangerous, and if we play with fire in the spiritual realm, it is and can be dangerous!

I know … that’s an oxymoron right! Either you want me to play with or you don’t. What do you want!

Well I’m glad you asked me.

I’ve stopped by here today to serve notice to each of you under the sound of my voice that if you understand, or should I say if you fully understand what fire represents and what the fire is, I will tell you don’t play with the fire because you might get burned!

For our purposes in this season, we stand in need of God’s fire in our lives but don’t play with the fire, because you might get burned.

For too long, we’ve been playing with fire and many people have even died and gone on to be with Jesus or hell whichever one and never fully understood what it meant to not play with fire.

But when we play with fire, something is bound to happen! It may be something that you and I are expecting to happen or is there something that catches you by surprise?

Either way don’t play with fire because you might get burned.

Fire is used throughout the Bible and has many meanings to include:

Purification, consecration, destruction, and judgment

Regardless to whichever meaning is reflective of what will be the result of you playing with fire: if you aren’t ready for what’s to come – don’t play with fire, you might get burned!

Purification – removing negativity, preparation for a deeper spiritual relationship, and symbolic cleansing.

Consecration – separation from worldly distractions, and setting apart.

Destruction – physical separation or death

Judgment – verdict, self reflection, and discernment

Tell 3 people in this place, don’t play with fire – you may get burned.

The writer of Hebrews says that God is a consuming fire!!!

Playing church (fire) as a child

The scripture declares that we have to be careful that you do not refuse to listen to the One who is speaking.

The children of Israel did not escape when they refused to listen to Moses, the earthly messenger, we will certainly not escape if we reject the One who speaks to us from heaven!

As children playing with fire mocking what we saw others do in church, we realized that we didn’t escape either. Well some of us didn’t. The Bible says that when God spoke from Mount Sinai his voice shook the earth, but now he makes another promise: “Once again I will shake not only the earth but the heavens also

This means that all of creation will be shaken and removed, so that only unshakable things will remain.

The writer of hebrews says that Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe.

For our God is a consuming fire. His fire is not to be played with nor taken for granted. Because when you play with fire you will eventually get burned.

I played church and played church and played church and because I didn’t listen to what others said and didn’t move how others moved, I got burned!

God’s fire burned me, it purified me, it consecrated me, it destroyed things that I didn’t need in my life, it judged my wrong doings!

I’m so glad that I got burned by His fire! His fire which is the Holy Spirit taught me how to love my neighbors,

His fire taught me how to live holy, His fire taught me how to listen to His voice, His fire taught me how to operate in order,

His fire taught how accept correction, His fire taught me how to honor those in leadership,

His fire taught me the importance of praising His name, His fire taught me what it means to worship and to pray and to seek His face!

I thank God for His fire! If you don’t want what comes with His fire don’t play with it, because you might get burned!

Don’t play with fire, you might get burned!

Are you ready to catch on fire? If you’re not ready for what God has for you, don’t play with fire because you might get burn!

I wish somebody’s soul would catch on fire! I wish somebody’s soul would be consumed with fire! And burn with the Holy Ghost!

Don’t play with fire you might get burn!
